On Easter Sunday here in Forest Hills, Ascension PCA holds a community indoor Easter egg hunt, called the EasterFest. Basically it is an outreach to the community. We design a fun space for the kids from the community to egg hunt. Hundreds of kids and their families come out and its a great opportunity to share the gospel. (This event follows our church service). Usually, we have the luxury of cleaning up the next day. However this year since Passover and Easter do not coincide as usual the public school kids must return to school the next day. This means we must clean everything up on Easter. We are in need of volunteers to come from Good Friday through Monday to help advertise the event to passersby, help set up the event, talk to folks during the event and assist with breakdown and cleanup. Then we will host an Easter dinner for all. Housing will be included. Members of Ascension have offered their homes for volunteers to stay.
City Church is a church planting initiative focused on the neighborhoods of North Baltimore, most specifically Roland Park, Hampden, and Mount Washington. This initiative is spearheaded by Chapelgate Presbyterian Chruch in Marriottsville, MD and is a work of the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA). Patrick and Becca Donohue have been commissioned by Chapelgate Presbyterian Church and Mission to North America as church planters.
New City is an intentional multicultural at risk ministry and church that is embedded in an under resourced neighborhood. Our hope is to see our youth get the gospel and develop a passion for life, learning, leadership and God. Our prayer is to see hope brought into a youth, single mom or grandma's life! We are all about making a difference in one life.
Living Hope Church is PCA church plant on the south side of Chicago that reaches both the Woodlawn neighborhood and The University of Chicago, a very diverse group of people from different colors, classes, and cultures. Through Hope Works, a Living Hope-based community development organization, we are helping those in need to find employment, housing, other resources, and we’re even starting our own thrift store to generate jobs and income. The church is advancing, the needs of hurting people are meeting God’s grace and help, and the gospel is being displayed in word and deed.

Many houses still lie in ruin, families need ministering to, there is still much work to be done in education, community development, business and beyond. Most of this work now falls into the category of development. For our community to experience lasting transformational change at foundational levels, leadership from our community must be the ones leading with the hard work, investing the human capital and supplying industrious creativity to care for our neighborhood’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs. There remains a need for outside support but that which is “not done to people or for people but with people.” We waver in our effectiveness to be successful in this, nonetheless, we are committed to learning from our mistakes and pressing forward.
